Are centipedes dangerous?
Centipedes have large structures that look like claws, and underneath these claws is a venom gland. Centipedes are carnivores (meat-eaters) and they use venom to paralyze their prey. They are mostly dangerous to worms, spiders, and other small vertebrates. They very rarely bite humans, and if they do the result is usually minor skin irritation. It can be very scary to be bitten by a centipede, but it is not medically dangerous.

That being said, if you have very small pets in the house – hamsters, mice, toy dogs, etc. – centipede bites can be very painful and possibly dangerous for them. So if you see a centipede, contact West Termite, Pest, and Lawn as soon as possible.

How can I get rid of centipedes?
Centipedes can be difficult to treat because they are so good at hiding themselves away in dark, un-trafficked areas of your home. If you suspect you may have a centipede problem, you should contact a pest control specialist immediately. They have the appropriate chemical treatments and training to eliminate your infestation completely. 

To keep your home from being reinfested, your pest control specialist will likely also recommend these centipede remedies:

  • Moisture Reduction – repair leaks or use dehumidifiers to dry up any damp areas in your home and deter centipedes
